Welcome to our climate hub!

The food industry is responsible for a significant percentage of global greenhouse gases. That is a major responsibility, but at the same time it offers an opportunity for us to improve and work together. Delhaize wants to adopt an ambitious and tangible role in the movement towards a liveable earth. As part of the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), Delhaize aims to achieve a 45% reduction in carbon emissions in its supply chain by 2030, compared to 2018. In that context, we’re looking forward to working with all of our suppliers to set individual climate objectives and to report progress annually.

Delhaize asks all of its suppliers to:

  1. Commit to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This commitment is an important step which will enable you to establish your own Science Based Targets and have them validated by SBTi within 24 months after making the commitment.

  2. Report 2023 Scope 1-2-3 carbon emissions report, along with emission reduction plans, to Delhaize commencing from June 4th, 2024, with a final reporting deadline of September 18th, 2024. This becomes an annual process, in which suppliers report on the previous reporting year.

Suppliers are invited to report via the online reporting platform ImpactBuying or CDP. If you have calculated scope 1-2-3 emissions but are not yet reporting, please contact us at carbon@delhaize.be to be launched on ImpactBuying free of charge.

Where to start?

We have created this website to guide our suppliers in taking the next steps. In general, there are three areas to work in, being Carbon Footprinting, Climate Targetsetting and Climate Reporting.

Please use the following guiding questions to navigate our climate hub.

1. Has your organisation committed to the Science Based Targets initiative?

2. Has your organisation calculated Scope 1-2 and Scope 3 emissions?

  • Yes, we have. In that case, please follow the instructions under Climate Reporting.
  • No, not yet. In that case, please follow steps 1 to 4 (and, later on, steps 5 to 7) under Carbon Footprinting.

For reference, this announcement letter has been sent to all our suppliers in June 2023.
